*chuckle* I do not feel death is a necessary element to draw out a response from the readers. Something must be said for the genre, I think, in that shounen manga rarely tends to become super-angsty the way some of the shoujo manga (or rather, manga with young women as target audience) can get. Tennis no Oujisama, despite the massive female audience it has acquired, started out as a shounen manga, which is why I tend to avoid extreme angst in my TeniPuri fanfics. In this ficlet, I tried to not make death the focus of the story, but rather a moving force that puts the story's events in motion.
"Focus" is a lovely story; I tend to be quite a canon purist when it comes to fanfictions, and I fear my praise often ends up buried under criticism, but "Focus" was one of the first TeniPuri fanfictions I read, and thus special to me.
